5. High alpine games

At 22nd July 2007 take pace the 5th high alpine games in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, where farmers from Cortina d’Ampezzo and ones from Enneberg fight a symbolic battle for the grazing rights.

Once the farmers from Enneberg and from Cortina d’Ampezzo were enemies, today they play against each other. At the Medieval times every piece of land counted and quarrels, even bloody ones, were the order of the day. The quarrels stopped when in the 17th century the farmers were forced to share their grazing rights by contract.

High alpine games in summer

For the last five years the farmers have met alternately on the Fodara-Vedla-Alp in Enneberg or on the Ra-Stua-Alp in Ampezzo and in games they “fight” for the grazing rights on the Alps in the course of old rural tradition. Tree trunks have to be thrown, hay has to be collected, nails knocked, trunks sawn and ropes pulled.
