Dolomites heritage of UNESCO

After years of trial and hopes, the Dolomites became finally world heritage of UNESCO in June 2009.

The area to be included in the list of UNESCO world heritage is around 142,000 hectares.

In this area, are also includes the four nature parks of South Tyrol: Puez-Odle, Dolomites of Sexten, Fanes Sennes-Braies and Sciliar-including Latemar Rosengarten, and the Bletterbach Canyon.

The provinces of Bozen, Belluno and Trento are awaiting the verdict.


A long process began in 2004

The process for approval of the Dolomites as Heritage of Nature began in December 2004, when the President of the Interministerial Working Group for the Permanent World Heritage of UNESCO, after 5 years and after several inspections the Dolomites are recognized their value and through this appointment will also ensure the future compliance from an environmental and landscape protection!
